Joint tax returns – a simple fix?
One of the common proposals for fixing the Australian tax system is for married couples to file a joint return. Doing so would eliminate intricate income arrangements and transfers between spouses, which in turn would remove the need for overly technical pieces of tax legislation like the Personal Services Income tests.
